Fred Robledo’s buzzer-beater Tout wins Short Video DFMie

Fred Robledo of the Los Angeles News Group won the 2014 Short Video DFMie for capturing a buzzer-beating basketball shot.

The nomination explains:

Fred Robledo captured this Tout of a dramatic, buzzer-beating basket from the California’s Southern Section high school basketball playoffs. The video, of the basket by Jeremy Hemsley lifting Damien to a 74-72 victory over Mission Oak, immediately went viral and was picked up across the nation.

(What was particularly notable was that Robledo also captured the play at the end of regulation that sent the game into overtime in the first place. This one isn’t the entry, but just fun to watch).

Judges’ comments:

The decision went into overtime, but the judges give the top score to FredRobledo for his Tout video of a buzzer beater that made the crowd go wild. Being at the right place, at the right time, and pressing the “record” button to capture a moment that really means something to the community — that’s a winner.

This is one of five DFMies for the Los Angeles News Group. Robledo’s video also won the first ToutBout.
