Karen Workman

Karen Workman is the deputy breaking news editor for Digital First Media’s Thunderdome.
 
Ms. Workman began her career in 2004 at The Oakland Press, a daily newspaper in Pontiac, Mich. She worked as an editorial assistant while attending college and was hired as a reporter upon earning her bachelor’s degree in 2007. Ms. Workman served as community engagement editor from 2011 until she was promoted to the curation team in July 2012. She joined the breaking news team as a producer in January 2013 and moved into the deputy role in October.
 
She was also a member of Journal Register Company’s ideaLab and has taken an active role in editorial training initiatives.
 
Ms. Workman graduated summa cum laude with a degree in journalism from Oakland University. She was named to Oakland County’s inaugural ‘Elite 40 under 40’ in 2012, and was chosen the following year for Editor & Publisher's '25 Under 35.'
