Nelson Hsu (Graphics Editor)

Nelson Hsu

Nelson is the Graphics Editor at Thunderdome primarily working on the data team, but moves across departments to wherever he is needed. He works on a variety of things including data-driven applications, interactive and static graphics and multimedia presentations.

Some of his work at Thunderdome includes: Firearms in the Family, Kitchen Pop, Decoding the Kennedy Assasination, Bracket Advisor, and Denver Post Crime map.

Before joining Digital First Media, Nelson was the Lead Editorial Designer at NPR where he led a team of editorial designers that created graphics and interactive content for npr.org. He was also part of the NewsApps team.

Prior to NPR, Nelson was a Senior Interactive Designer at The Washington Post where he created graphics and interactive content for online use.

Nelson enjoys working a variety of topics and is a proponent of presenting the content in the most effective way possible. His work has contributed to multiple awards including a Pulitzer, a Peabody and several Emmy nominations. He has also taught classes related to interactive journalism in the past.

Nelson comes from a Fine Arts/Graphic design background and grew up in the DC Metro area. He enjoys eating and travelling and is constantly trying to lower his handicap to master the game of golf.
