As sports web producer, Matt Walks serves as Thunderdome's lead NFL and NBA editor, coordinating and executing coverage of national sports events for the second largest chain of newspapers in the country.
In his role, Matt produces, curates, writes, reports and scours the web for the best sports content. He's covered a Super Bowl, conceived and developed a following for "Starting 5," a weekly NBA infographic, and he generates and maintains online audiences with liveblogging tools like ScribbleLive.
Before DFM, Matt was at Emerald Media Group as a copy editor, copy desk chief, sports editor and reporter covering Oregon’s football team. Matt played a key role in helping The Emerald transition from a five-day-a-week broadsheet focus to a digital-first newsroom approach, a move that won the media group the title of “Best College Newspaper” by College Media Matters in 2013.
Matt helped create an iPad magazine app that focused on the Ducks’ 2012 season leading up to their Fiesta Bowl win, and served as the lead writer and editor of Taking Flight, a hardbound book chronicling the last 25 years of Oregon football.
He spent his 2012 summer on the sports copy desk of The Denver Post as a Dow Jones News Fund intern, and was included on the staff’s Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News following the Aurora shootings.
